DUI fatality leads to Oxnard arrest

DUI fatality leads to Oxnard arrest
A 21-year-old Oxnard woman faces charges related to a deadly Ventura DUI crash earlier this year. The driver struck a telephone pole at a Ventura intersection in a early-morning accident in February. She seriously injured herself in the collision, and also her passenger, a 21-year-old Oxnard man, died at the scene.

Rescue workers transported the woman to the hospital in critical condition, where she recovered from her injuries. She now faces charges of Gross Vehicular Manslaughter while intoxicated. The accident occurred in February, but Ventura police only recently concluded their investigation into the incident. A judge issued a warrant for her arrest, and she turned herself in. Officials are holding the woman at the Ventura County Jail in lieu of a $250,000 bond, and she will appear in court on December 11 for matters related to the charge. If convicted, she faces between 4 and 10 years in prison.

Oxnard DUI Lawyer

When you facing charges for a DUI in Ventura, hire an experienced DUI lawyer like Robert Helfend. Mr. Helfend has nearly 35 years of experience in courtroom criminal defense, and takes DUI cases in Ventura County. The prosecutor handles most DUI cases as misdemeanors, but certain circumstances require felony charges. Gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated is always a felony charge, however.

Felony convictions in California most often result in a prison sentence. The actual outcome of a case depends upon the circumstances. If a conviction results, the judge will determine the sentence based on a variety of factors.

An experienced attorney can make a major difference in the outcome of a case. Your attorney may work to drop or reduce the charges, exclude critical evidence, or reduce the sentence upon conviction. Your attorney may also choose to pursue a defense strategy that involves many options. An experienced attorney will work hard to ensure that the prosecutor respects your rights and proves his case.

Don’t settle for an inexperienced attorney, or one who won’t fight aggressively for you. Contact Robert Helfend or call toll-free at (800) 834-6434, (805) 273-5611, (310) 456-3317 or (818) 591-2809 for an immediate consultation on your Ventura County DUI case.
