Artwork as an Internet Business

Let's talk a bit about investing in fine art. I have made this my top priority, and my only internet marketing business.

Remember that I'm a newbie to fine art. I know NOTHING about fine art. But I have managed through International Galleries Inc, to acquire about 13 pieces of limited edition fine art giclee prints on canvas in a couple of months. These prints are by some of the US top new artists. I picked pieces first, because some were by best selling artisits, and others simply because I liked them. Another reason I factored in was if a print was about to sell out. That means the value will go up quickly.

Why invest in fine art, you might ask. Well, for me, and a lot of other investors, it's not to hang on the wall-although I do have a couple of my favorites hanging on my walls. For the most part my prints remain in the mailing tubes wrapped in acid free tissue paper. I keep the certificates of authenticity in a loose leaf folder.

I invest in fine art to make lots of money. Duh! If I buy a print for $200 (I get a $40 discount with IGI) . These are limited edition prints, so that when the edition sells out, the value of the print will go up. Obviously, the more you hold on to a sold-out print, the better the price you will get at resale. Usually in about six months to a year, the value of the print will double.
Some prints by certain artists have skyrocketed in price in a short time.

One guy just had a print he purchased for $600, I think about a year or two ago. He recently had it appraised at $60,000. Now THAT's profit. But usually you can estimate that your return on resale after the edition sells out will be two or three times it's purchase price. The longer you hold on to it, the higher the resale price wil go.

So, to sum up: I buy a print for $200 that has a value of $240. The edition sells out and a while later I resell it for $480. $480-200= a profit of $280.

Keep in mind that I have invested about $5000 into IGI fine art. (I wouldn't have done that if I didn't totally believe in the company-I'm not a millionaire.) So my $5000 investment in fine art worth actually worth $6000 the moment I acquired it. I wait for six months to a year after the editions sell out, or more, and sell the prints for a minimum of $12,000.

That's a potential profit of $7000.

I was a real estate investor for years. That involves a lot of running around, legal contracts, placing ads, a great risk. But I can make $7000 just sitting at my computer by investing in fine art. At my age I have decided I no longer want to run around all day.

I didn't have to start by investing $5000. I could just as easily have started with $600 or $1000. But since my intention was to make big money, I went for the $5000 to buy $6000 in fine art.

The really nice thing is that with my high-end company I never have to invest another dollar, and I will continue to acquire prints that will go up in value. I already received my first "free" print- a beautiful print of a painting by Elliot Fallas- a beach scene. I love it.

More tomorrow...
