An accident occurred near Poway on June 13. As a result of the collision, a young woman lost her life. The accident happened at about 8:15 a.m. on Scripps Poway Parkway.

According to details of the accident, there was a delivery Truck in the roadway. That truck had broken down and the driver had pulled to the side of the road. The female driver of a passenger vehicle veered out of her lane of travel and off the side of the road, directly into the back of the delivery vehicle. The woman’s passenger had to be extricated from her vehicle.

The passenger was life-flighted to a local hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital, and no indication of his condition was given. Authorities don’t know why the woman hit the truck. They reported that there was no indication that the woman had attempted to brake. Officials did say that there are three lanes of traffic, including a bike path, and the truck was pulled over out of the way of other vehicles.

Law enforcement officials urge drivers to stay focused on the road ahead. Distracted driving, although not necessarily the cause of this accident, is a leading cause of collisions across the country. Eating, texting or even speaking with passengers can all be a distraction and, as such, hazardous.
