The Department for Business, Innovation & Skills released its quarter 1 2014 report in early August. According to their findings, the highest proportion of high-skill jobs within England is in inner London with 63% of jobs being classified as high-skill. Closely following inner London was the South East with 50% and outer London with a total of 48%. The Office of National Statistics defines high-skill occupations as levels 1-3 in the standard occupational classification system. The highest of the three tiers includes jobs such as Managing Directors. The second tier would include professional occupations such as doctors, scientists and similar positions that require degree level qualifications. The final tier includes positions such as laboratory technicians and other professional and technical occupations. The Department for Business, Innovation & Skills analysed people aged 16-64. The percentage of high skill jobs from total jobs are: Inner London 63% South East 50% Outer London 48% East of England 46% South West 44% Rest of North West 43% West Yorkshire 42% Rest of West Midlands 42% Merseyside 41% East Midlands 40% Greater Manchester 40% Rest of Yorkshire and Humberside 39% West Midlands Metro County 37% Tyne and Wear 37% South Yorkshire 36% Rest of North East 33%
