For most of us, just getting to the interview stage is hard enough but what can you do to better your post interview chances? Here are 9 tips for greater success:

1. When an interview is wrapping up, make sure to express your interest in the next steps in the process.

2. Ask if you may take the interviewer's card

3. Inquire when would be a good time to follow up.

4.  Make sure to send a thank you note after the interview, reinforcing your interest in the position.

5. Wait until the time frame the employer has given you regarding hearing from him or her has passed before contacting the company again. For example, if the interviewer says you will hear by Thursday, contact on Friday.

6. If a few days have passed after the time frame that the company gave you, send a follow up email at that point.

7. If you don't receive a response to the email, wait a few days and then follow up with a phone call.

8. After leaving one phone message, do not leave additional messages.

9. You can try by calling back again after a few days. If you get the answering machine again, just try back later. Don't leave additional messages.

Your goal when following up after an interview is to remain on the radar of the interviewer, make it clear that you are professional and qualified for the position without being too aggressive or annoying.
