How can you be bored in Gauteng with so many things to do?

People always tell me how bored they get in their day-to-day lives living in Gauteng and I just cannot understand why they would be, there’s just so many things to do! So I decided to come up with a list of all my favourite activities to do in the province of Gauteng, enjoy.

Loftus Versfeld Stadium

Why not go to see the Mamelodi Sundowns play some rugby with your friends or family? If rugby isn’t your thing they often host local football matches as well. The stadium underwent a big refurbishment for the 2010 World Cup so even if there aren’t any teams playing today you can go down there to take a tour of the stadium and its new facilities.

Lesedi Cultural Village

A great cultural learning experience, this village teaches you about the ways of five different South African tribes. If you live fairly far away you can spend the night in one of the luxury themed rooms they have, each theme is based on a different tribe.

Johannesburg Zoo

The zoo is always a fun day out for you and your family. They run guided tours throughout the day to see all the different species they have. There is an enclosure for just about every single Animal, there’s one for animals from Madagascar, reptiles, farm animals, crocodiles, cheetahs, apes, lions and animals of the amazon.

Hartbeespoort Aerial Cableway

If you enjoy good views this is the perfect opportunity to see some great ones. This cart takes you to the top of the Magaliesburg mountain range and offers amazing views of Magaliesburg, Hartbeespoort Dam and the surrounding areas. After taking in all the breathtaking views, you can go back down to the bottom of the mountain to relax while your children go into the KidZone – a play area designated for children.

Lion Park

A fantastic family-orientated day out, Lion Park is a 2km lion wildlife conservation enclosure near Lanseria Airport. You can either go on a self-drive tour or a guided tour in their new silent electric vehicles, either way you are guaranteed to get extremely close to the animals, you can literally stroke lion cubs!

Gold Reef City

An amusement park with over 30 thrill rides, an animal farmyard, a 4D theatre and a history of the gold rush the park is based on. This theme park is situated just 8km outside of Johannesburg making it very accessible for families. Even if you feel a bit old to go on the rides there are plenty of restaurants and activities you can do while the kids enjoy the rides.

Cradle of Humankind

This is the perfect chance to teach your children about their heritage and where they come from. The Cradle of Humankind is one of the 8 South African world heritage sites and is home to around 40% of the world’s human ancestor fossils. This cheap day out is great if you have young children who need to be entertained as well as learn.

Montecasino

This is definitely an activity for grown-ups only. This leisure complex is designed like an Italian village boasting a casino, 2 theatres, a mall, over 40 different restaurants and the biggest fully digital cinema in South Africa. This is one of the more expensive options on this list, but there is absolutely no way you could be bored here with so many different activities and things to do. You will want to book in advance if you plan on going here.
