Return of the Vernac – why you need a website audit

Have you ever come across a word that you thought had been put to rest somewhere around a decade ago and found yourself thinking, ‘Is that back?!’

(If you’ve seen that Friends episode where Ross tries to bring back ‘The Ross-A-Tron’ you’ll know what I mean.)

Well, yesterday I was absentmindedly scrolling through Facebook when I had to slam on the brakes and back it up to check out a word used in an Apple ad.

The household name, which has built its Brand around innovation, has used the word ‘multimedia’ in ads about their new pencil tool.

*Shudder*

When was the last time that was used?

(To back myself up I quickly ‘Google Trend-ed’ the word. Lets just say, the decline in popularity of the word between 2004 and today resembles what we in the UK call ‘The Death Slide’.)

Exaggerations aside, I’m sure you’d agree that there are certain words in the English language that really should be left in the past.

(Amazeballs, pizazz, and funky… May they rest in peace.)

And it’s important to stay up-to-date with them or you risk sounding out of touch (like Apple, who sound like they’re living back in the 00s).

This doesn’t just stop at the words you use. The entire aesthetic of your website sends a strong message about your brand to anyone who finds you.

If your business looks outdated, people will question whether you and the information you put out there are outdated.

Here at JTN we recommend conducting a website Audit every 6-12 months to ensure that your brand remains fresh and… down with the kids (see what I did there?)

If you don’t have the time or skills to make sure your website stays on top of SEO trends, industry changes, out-of-fashion words and design no-nos, then you’re in luck.

We do.

In fact, it’s something our design team are really quite good at.

(Feel free to have a little look around our website if you’d like something to back up that statement.)

Then, if you’d like to know a bit more about how we could help freshen up your brand so that you get the right kind of online attention, get in touch.

Make 2018 the year your website works hard to get your brand noticed for the right reasons
