It’s been 20 years of waiting, but you still hold the faith — that Hogwarts invitation letter is still on its way. Well, in that case, you’ll want to be prepared for classes, and Bloomsbury Books just posted the pre-course reading list. The UK publisher of the Harry Potter series is teaming up with the British Library to celebrate 20 years of Harry Potter with an exhibition — and two books — all about Hogwarts classes and the real-life phenomena that inspired them.

If you’re looking for more tales from the wizarding world, these books aren’t that — these aren’t stories, and J.K. Rowling isn’t writing them. Instead, they’re basically historical texts about the world of Harry Potter — Harry Potter: A History of Magic – The Book of The Exhibition and Harry Potter – A Journey Through A History of Magic will do deep dives into what Harry and his friends were actually studying all those years. They’ll have more information about Potions, Defense Against the Dark Arts, and other courses. If either of them have a glossary, it’ll instantly be worth the asking price.

The books will contain a lot of the information that will be on display in the exhibition itself, so if you can’t make it out to England to see it for yourself, this is a nice backup plan. Either way, they’re Harry Potter Books of some sort, so you know they’re going to have to go in the collection.

Bloomsbury plans to release the books alongside the opening of the exhibition in October. News about the books leaked out from a statement issued by the publisher on a website for private investors — while there’s been no official announcement made to the public, the plans for publication are clearly laid out in the statement.
