Using Crystals to Improve Your Skin

That headline can bring to mind images of some New Age retreat in Northern California where there’s nothing but Yanni on the sound system, tofu in the restaurant, and crystals everywhere to be seen, aligning your soul…at least in theory.

That’s not what we’re talking about here in Pennsylvania. At Aesthetic Plastic Surgery we use crystals to improve your Skin with microdermabrasion.

Think of it as a light sandblasting. That’s the idea behind microdermabrasion, but instead of removing unwanted stains or paint, you’re removing the dull, lifeless external layer of your epidermis. Microdermabrasion exposes the glowing, fresh skin underneath.

Microdermabrasion can be either a stand-alone procedure or as a preparation for facelifts, brow lifts, or midface lifts.

What can microdermabrasion improve?

Microdermabrasion is effective when used for certain skin conditions:

  • Solar lentigines
  • Melasma
  • Dilated pores
  • Oily skin
  • Thick skin
  • Mild, shallow acne scarring

How microdermabrasion works

Microdermabrasion is very effective and very easy to take, with no downtime. It’s non-invasive and non-surgical. It involves the use of aluminum oxide or sodium chloride crystals to exfoliate the skin surface. The crystals are sprayed onto the skin through a wand that also suctions back the crystals and any dead skin that has been removed. The degree of exfoliation is determined by the amount of suction used, along with the number of passes made over an area.

Anywhere from five to 12 microdermabrasion sessions are used to enhance skin hydration, sebum production, and texture. Appointments are spaced two to three weeks apart to allow the skin to recover. No anesthesia or numbing agents are necessary.

Want to bring that glow back to your skin? Microdermabrasion with Aesthetic Plastic Surgery could be a good procedure for you. Call us at (302) 656-0214 to make an appointment or with any questions you may have.
