Personal Protective Equipment - The Importance of Eye Protection

The 30 Hour Osha Training course is tremendously important, for it helps workers and employees understand their safety rights. For instance, not many people are aware of the fact that it is mandatory for the employer of an organization to provide eye protection equipment and clothing to his/her workers, when there is a risk of eye injury. Some of these risks may include, aerosols, vapors, lasers, strong heat sources, high intensity radiation from welding operations, splashing substances, harmful gases and flying objects.

However, this type of protection is most required by workers and employees, who work nearby or pass close to hazardous areas. It is highly essential that employers understand that workers need to be provided with the maximum degree of eye protection.

Before deciding as to whether eye protection is really required, one needs to consider the following points:
  • Nature of risk to the eyes, for example, radiation, impact, liquid/chemical splash etc.
  • Conditions under which the person is working.
  • Visual requirements of the task.
  • Personal comfort of wearer. This may include appearance, weight, and unrestricted vision.
  • Condition of person’s eyesight.
The 30 Hour Osha Training course also sheds light upon the different types of eye protection that are available in the market today:
  • Goggles
  • Wide Vision Goggles
  • Welding Helmets
  • Welding Hand shields
  • Face shields
  • Safety Spectacles
  • Tinted Safety Spectacles/Goggles
