Reflections: Gratitude

Gratitude is the wellspring of inspiration. One of the most inspiring exercises is to be Grateful for all that you have in your life whether you consider it to be positive or negative, it all serves in some way.

As the new year begins, start with a gratitude exercise and make this activity part of your daily routine.  The more grateful you are, the less stress you have.  You cannot be stressed and grateful at the same time…

Breathe in deeply – inhale to the count of three, exhale to the count of three, steadily and evenly.  Pay attention to your breath.  As the noise in your brain becomes still, think about everyone in your life who has helped you through out your life…

Think about those who were there for you when you needed support.

Think about those who challenged you to live up to your values.

Think about your family, your friends, your neighbors, your advocates.

Think about the events that brought you sorrow and joy.

Think about the people who are kind and mean.

Think about the world events that seem unjust and unfair.

Think about the difficult people in your life.

Every situation, event, and person serves a purpose.  Those who challenge you the most are your greatest teachers.  You are reflected in them as they are in you.

Finding a few minutes each day to be in a state of grace brings inspiration and power to your life.  Throughout the day, notice as you may drift, bring yourself back to the present moment and be grateful.  Presence and patience balance you.

Accepting and appreciating all that is for what it is bring calmness and bliss.  Your journey is brilliant.

This year, commit yourself to your purposeful life. Embrace each day with anticipation and appreciation.   Take those few moments in deep reflection and you will have greater understanding for the events in your life, and find deeper meaning to your existence.

Remind yourself every day how deserving you are.  Enjoy.
