What is Adwords and how exactly does it work?

Picture this scenario. You have been using your Cell Phone for the past couple of years. Without it you feel lost, almost as if a part of you is missing. One day you wake up and you find your cell phone gone. You try and remember where last you put it but nothing comes to mind. You don’t know if you perhaps left it accidentally at your workplace or if someone stole it while you were shopping and you simply did not realize it. You know pretty well that a cell phone is something you cannot live without so you go online and search for the following keywords “buy a new cell phone”. You will probably notice that thousands upon thousands of web pages (perhaps even millions!) pop up and if you take a close look at your sidebar you will notice a heck of a lot of advertisements too, providing you with a wide range of cell phone choices.

Google and other related search engines are programmed to produce a set of matching web pages and Adword advertisements for a list of various related companies. Adwords is a system put in place where advertisers can advertise they blog, website, product or services in order to generate more traffic to acquire more readers or more potential customers to increase the chances of sales Each of these advertisers bid on one or more keywords or key phrases that the internet user is likely to search for. Using the example from our scenario, the key phrase would be “buy a new cell phone”. Each time that the internet user clicks on the advertisement the advertiser is billed a small fee by Google, or any other Adwords company that the advertiser has subscribed to. The adverts that are situated at the top are those that have the higher bid per click and the ones at the bottom are those with the lowest bid per click.

You can have your Adwords expenditures capped so that your advertising budget can be extended over a period of weeks or months instead of having it all consumed in one day. Adwords advertisers have a lot to consider when using this service, such as:

  • Locating the best keywords for your blog/website.
  • Determining a stop and starting date for the Adwords advertisement
  • Determining the best possible bid price as it factors advertisement’s placement on search engines.
Adwords are another useful, effective way of generating traffic to your blog/website with minimal effort. Good Adwords designs and placements could increase your traffic by hundreds perhaps even thousands per day. For those kinds of results, I believe is worth it especially considering the small fee that is charged!
