Rolling Stone rolls south, on purpose.

Rolling Stone, which emphasizes its rock-and-roll disposition by liberally using the F-bomb in its reporting, has decided that this American country music thing is going to be big.

The new Rolling Stone Country (not Country Rolling Stone, which would be confusing to both geologists and rural Led Zeppelin fans) will debut next year.  The magazine announced that it will open a Nashville editorial office, noting in a corporate-speak firm-grasp-of-the-obvious way that “Rolling Stone Country comes as country music continues to boom as a business.”

For the record, Rolling Stone officially acknowledged the country and western genre’s existence when it put Gene Autry on the cover in October 1973.
