How To Properly Execute A Last Minute Move

Many of us who have gone through a move have planned for a few months to make sure the move is stress-free and successful. We hire movers in advance, we de-clutter our home, we organize our packing, and we try and plan for any last-minute things that may pop-up. However, what if you are having to move on a few days’ notice? The first thing you will want to do is take a deep breath and follow our list below because you will be very stressed and something will inevitably go wrong.

So here are a few helpful tips that will assist you in the event you are having to plan a last-minute move.

HIRE A MOVING COMPANY ASAP

The very first thing you will want to do is hire a Jacksonville moving company. You may have to call around, as many movers are booked a few weeks in advance. It may be a little difficult to find a mover available based on your limited schedule. This may be one of those times where you also hire your mover to either assist you with the packing or have them pack your home for you. This will save you a significant amount of time to focus on other tasks prior to your move date.

GATHER THE NECESSARY SUPPLIES

If you are handling all of the packings yourself you will want to gather all the Supplies you will need. Try and make limited trips so you can spend your time packing, rather than running out getting supplies. These supplies include cardboard boxes, newspaper, tape, and bubble wrap

If you have a lot of items you are looking to throw away, it may be worth it to rent a dumpster so you can easily and efficiently toss your unwanted items. By doing this it may cost a little more money, however, it will save you a significant amount of time. Remember there are certain items you cannot throw away, which include batteries, electronics, household chemicals, etc…

ASK FOR HELP

Trying to move on an aggressive timeframe (i.e. a few days) is nearly impossible by yourself. Ask your family and friends for help. Try and organize your help by assigning everyone a task or a room to tackle. Make sure you provide them with the necessary supplies they will need to pack quickly and easily without having to constantly ask you for direction. You can thank your helpers by paying them with food, beer, or by even giving some of your items away to them for all of their hard work.

GO ROOM BY ROOM

If you are having to tackle this move on your own it will be extremely overwhelming, however, it can be done with a little discipline and focus. Your strategy will be to tackle each room one at a time. Like many of us you may want to jump around, however, this will slow you down. To stay motivated and complete the task at hand you need to have a sense of accomplishment. This is done by completing one room and Moving on to the next room. Not only will you feel like you are chipping away at your monstrous task, but you will stay focused, organized and it will decrease your stress.

MOVING DAY

The dreaded moving day is finally here. You made it! While the movers are packing the truck spend some time cleaning and doing last minute walkthroughs to make sure nothing was missed. Moving last minute is very stressful, but it is not impossible. Utilize your resources, get organized, ask for help, and most importantly stay calm.
