Moving With Pets

Moving With Pets

Moving is stressful enough let alone Moving with children and animals. In this blog we are going to focus on moving with an animal. Though most animals tend to go with the flow, it is important to prepare ahead of time both for your pet as well as for you. Below are a few recommendations that can help your moving experience be stress free for both you and your pet.

Rules & Regulations for Your New Home

If you are moving to an apartment, condo, townhome or single family home many associations have rules that you will need to abide by. For instances many rental or condo complexes will not allow individuals to move in who have a particular breed type (i.e: pitbulls). This is important information to know Prior to signing any lease.

Animal Identification

Your animals should always have appropriate identification, whether at home or if you are out and about. This is especially important when you first move into your new home. Your neighbors will more than likely not have met you yet, nor will they be able to recognize your animal. Which makes animal tags that much more important when moving. On your animal tags should be the pets name, address and phone number. This way if your animal gets lost, you can be contacted immediately.

Up To Date Vaccinations

Prior to your Jacksonville move you should schedule a vet appointment. This will ensure your pet is up-to-date on their vaccinations. Moving can get chaotic, which is why you will want to do this prior to your move so you don’t forget. Depending on where you move to, you may have to provide a certificate of health for your pet to show they are up to date on their vaccinations. It is always a good idea to find out what the requirements are prior to moving to your new destination.

Crating Your Pet

Depending on how you travel, car or plane you will want to secure your pets. If you are traveling by car, then it is always safer to crate your pet. This is for the safety of the animal and those in the car. A loose pet can be a distraction and can get in the way when you’re driving.

If you have a long distance move or are traveling by plane it can be a little more complicated. Typically airlines will not allow larger animals to fly in the cabin. Larger animals will be placed in the cargo. It is always good to speak with your pet’s veterinarian prior to flying so they can tell you about any risks or medications that you can give your animal prior to your plane trip. Also research and speak with the airline to find out the do’s and don’ts prior to putting your pet on the airplane.

Whether you are moving local or long distance, planning ahead and making sure you have your bases covered will always ensure a smoother move.
