5.30am the alarm sounds for the second time, I hit snooze 15 minutes before, I get out of bed and start my morning routine.
I arrive at the car-park at work, one of the team comes running out to meet me arms waving and all excited, the Driver for the small van hasn’t turned in and the driver for the 7.5 tonner has been on the phone wanting Directions!!!!
I calm them down and contact the driver who wants direction and sort him out, and then contact the other driver, who I wake up and he tells me he will be in within 20 mins. First crisis has been averted and I start working through the Watch list, (our daily heads up list of important deliveries).
I then start building up the delivery runs for the next day looking at the orders on the system, then the phone goes, for the 10th time, customer has run out of stock and it must get there today, there based in Manchester! No problem I can sort it.
In summary this role is demanding, challenging and there is never a dull moment. It is a key role that makes sure the customer receives their goods on time and in full, it’s also a balance to keep the costs as low as possible, you make sure the customer receives a great experience but not as a result of spending too much money on doing the impossible. I manage the costs of same-day vehicles and will also question the CS team to make sure that they have tried every other avenue, before I commit to spending additional costs.
The job is “a tough gig” but I love it and wouldn’t want to be doing anything else =)
