Are You in Favor or Not of Moving the Hidalgo County Courthouse? Yes or No Survey

As Edinburg city leaders reconsider their financial commitments to the proposed County Courthouse construction, talk about moving the Hidalgo County courthouse to another city, it’s now around the County.

Relocating the County courthouse to another city is also moving the County Seat. Texas law has a process if this were to happen, it requires that at least 50 percent of the County’s registered voters need to sign a petition to have an election on the move.

There are currently more than 300,000 registered voters in Hidalgo County – which means more than 150,000 people would have to sign a petition to get the issue onto a ballot.

The City of Edinburg’s new leadership appears to be hesitant to commit $30 million, about 20 percent of the $150 million cost of the county courthouse, over the next 30 years. For this reason, Texas Border Business in conjunction with Gilbert de Los Santos, P.h.D. are conducting this survey where Hidalgo County residents can participate by submitting their vote.
