Back injury pushed Lindsey Vonn to withdraw from World Cup race

On Saturday, Lindsey Vonn withdrew from another scheduled super-G after injuring her back in a World Cup Race. The race was canceled due to fog problem. 45-minutes before the start of the originally scheduled event, Vonn tweeted her decision and said that she was focused on being healthy and perfect for the Olympics. South Korea will host the Pyeongchang Olympics and it will start from 9th Feb to 25th Feb 2018. The American star won the downhill title at the 2010 Vancouver Games but missed the 2014 Sochi Games due to her injury. On early Saturday, Vonn jarred her in a World Cup super-G on the same St. Moritz course and completed the race in obvious pain in 24th place.

She tweeted on late Saturday that the injury was an acute facet spinal joint dysfunction. On Sunday, fog and strong winds high on the mountain had already forced event organizers to shorten their scheduled race and use a lower start gate. The 10:30 a.m. local time start was pushed back to 11:30 a.m. before organizers gave in to the thick fog blanketing the mountain. The super-G was designed to be a stand-alone race and to double as the first leg of a combined event with an afternoon slalom run. The combined was also canceled.
