The Board of Cricket Control India (BCCI) has opened the tender process for the television and digital rights of Indian Premier League.

The previous 10-year deal with Sony Pictures Network India (SPNI) is set to be expired at the end of 2017 season and the new deal will give rights for next 10 seasons, up to 2027. Currently, the digital rights of the league are with Star India which also posses the overseas media rights except for US and UK.
BCCI will accept bids till October 25. The television rights will be given till 2027 while digital rights will be given till 2022. The Committee of Administrators (COA) will then go through the tenders and suggest changes, if needed, before floating them.
The new bosses at BCCI wan to be patient about the process unlike their predecessors who were in a hurry to sign the deal. “The former BCCI bosses were in terrible hurry to do the IPL deal, which was rightly stopped by the Lodha Committee as the office-bearers weren’t eligible to do so. But the current working style of BCCI is to do everything without rushing. It’s after all the most important process for BCCI,” a source was quoted by TOI.
The previous deal with Sony helped BCCI generate about Rs. 6,700 crore across 10 years but the league has grown immensely in last one decade. It is now the most viewed cricketing league in the world and this will help BCCI in acquiring a bigger deal with the estimated amount to fall between Rs 18,000 to Rs 30,000 crore.
Earlier it was believed that the demoentisation move could have an impact on IPL auction and on media rights deal but that looks unlikely to happen. IPL auctions for 2017 season are set to happen on February 20, 2017 at Bengaluru with England all-rounder Ben Stokes expected to be the biggest attraction.
