I want to lose weight

There’s a millions articles on how to Lose Weight, but few offer what this article will offer you the way to achieve it. I want to lose weight, and having read many articles on diets and weight loss I am even more confused than when I started. Articles such as The fitness principles, Can home fitness getter better results faster, Life fitness treadmill and 2-Minute fitness are all valid articles.

However, after different levels of success with low carb, low calorie and low fat diets, I wanted to find some sort of weight loss program, which would lose the weight and keep it off. Over the years there are some tips that have paid off such as eating lots of vegetables and fruit, reducing alcohol intake to a minimum. Reducing alcohol intake had a tremendous effect, the less beer the less weight, but even that levels off. Stay away from junk food, again another good rule to live by but once you stay away from it and reap the initial benefits there isn’t much else. A female friend of mine started running, and what a difference as she progressed to about four to six miles a day. Certainly her weight dropped off, I thought, I used to run, I can do this. It always being prudent to ask your doctor before starting exercise, I went to see him.

On asking the question “Do you think I could start running again?” he replied “Good grief what do you want to do that for at your age”! Needless to say I was taken aback and then listened to twenty minutes on descriptions of non-impact exercise that could achieve the same but over a longer period. This led to calorie and alcohol unit counts for the next few weeks and in the end I wished I hadn’t asked the question.

Back to the drawing board…

Incidentally, do you know that exercise whilst reducing fat increases muscle mass and as a result starts to add weight, odd isn’t it? The one thing my doctor did impress on me was that it’s better to get the diet right before or at the same time as increasing exercise.
