Deepika Padukone, the only Indian, has been featured in the Time 100 most influential people in the world on April 19, 2018. She attended the TIME 100 Gala in Manhattan in New York on Tuesday amongst others honorees on the list.
The actress dazzled in a heavily embellished cream color Anamika Khanna ensemble. . She wore beautiful emerald earrings with berry lips and a sleek and her signature center parting hair-do completed the look. She arrived on the red carpet smiling and greeted everyone by folding hands in ‘Namaste’.
She even got on stage to talk about her bout with depression and how she struggled with it only to defeat it and finally find faith. As she was about to start her speech someone from the audience allegedly shouted, “You’re so beautiful!” to which she smiled and said, “thank you!” before starting her speech.
In her speech, she said, “February 15th, 2014, I remember waking up that morning with a strange pittish feeling in my stomach. I had no idea what I was feeling. Life all of a sudden just felt meaningless and there were days when I just wanted to give up. And a couple of weeks later I was diagnosed with clinical depression.
She further said, “Four years on I stand here in front of all of you with a slightly better understanding, I think, of life and my feelings and the person that I am, but I feel like more importantly, I think all of you will agree with me when I say that we’re going through some pretty challenging times all around the world.”
She added, “And so I want to raise a toast to every man and every woman and every child around the world that is faced with some sort of challenge every single day, but you do it with a smile, and I want to say that your power and your strength and your courage encourage me to go on every single day. And for the some of us I think who do think of giving up once in a while, I want you to know that we’re all in this together, and most importantly, that there is hope, because in the words of Stephen Fry, “We’ll be sunny one day.” Thank you.”

Deepika Padukone also spent time with Padma Lakshmi, who is her Hollywood manager and American author, actress, model and television host. Padma Lakshmi obliged to meet Deepika among the many other influential people at the TIME 100 Gala and took to Instagram and shared a snap of them with “The stunning Deepika Padukone”.
The TIME 100 Gala saw many honourees in attendance like Nicole Kidman, Millie Bobby Brown, Jennifer Lopez, Parkland high school shooting activists amongst others.
