Well I guess this is where I should introduce myself… My name is Ben, I am the Managing Director of a Small Business in the South West of England. I say Managing Director – as officially this is my title; Unofficially, I’m pretty much whatever I need to be – tea boy, bill payer, staff counseller, salesman, Dogsbody, whinge absorber – however the day goes I wear a number of these hats.
I’ve worked for myself since I left school at 16 and to be honest, I don’t think I could be an employee. Working for yourself has to be the hardest, loneliest, most exhilarating, exhausting and best challenge on this earth.

Reading this quote was the first time I realized I wasn’t alone.

My knowledge of Marc Andreessen who this quote is attributed to is pretty much zero – but in one fail swoop he sums up how we can all feel about being ‘the boss’.

The night sweats, the nice holiday, the brown envelope in the post, the nice car, the ever sick employee, the thank you letter from a satisfied customer, the 1 star review on your facebook page; all of these roller coaster emotions will that form part of our daily lives and are sure to be blogged on here in good time!

Hopefully my experiences will resonate with you, and it will be fantastic therapy for me – as with all good business we all win!
