5 Secrets of the Flawlessly Clean – How to Keep Your Home Clean

Deep Cleaning your home from top to bottom is simple, but time and energy intensive. Keeping it clean is more complex, but requires a whole lot less effort once you’ve built the right habits. Like painting or music, understanding the techniques and habits of the pro’s is a relatively straightforward affair, but effectively putting them into practice is something else! Enviropure can teach you the techniques, but only you can realize their value by incorporating them fully into the daily life of you and your family.

1) Clean As You Go.

I know. Big secret, right?

Perhaps the most commonly repeated tip concerning keeping the house clean, we know you’ve heard it 1000 times, but that’s because its the truth.

If this tip has not worked for you in the past, it’s likely because you understood it in the wrong context. Maybe the dishes were piling up, the floor needed mopping, cabinets spraying, etc. You were tired of having to dedicate yet another evening to the task of house cleaning, and were looking for a solution to a problem. You found this tip, and maybe did the dishes while cooking dinner. So the dishes were dealt with, but you still had work to do. That doesn’t seem like the big solution people make it out to be.

The issue here is that this tip isn’t meant to be the thing that gets a dirty house clean, it’s meant to stop a clean house from getting dirty.

One of the habits of the flawlessly clean is that they are always thinking about the problem of mess, whether they’re experiencing it or not. ‘Cleaning’ isn’t something they do on the evening’s and weekends, its something they’re always doing! It sounds terrible, always cleaning, but because mess is never allowed to accumulate, it takes a fraction of the time and energy!

2) Design Spaces to Be Clean

When there is less stuff in a room, there is less to clean. Think about this in terms of the large and small items in a space.

The more surfaces you have in a space, the more work you have to put into dusting and wiping them down. Having a lot of shelving and storage may seem like a great way to get organized, but it can also be a great way to accumulate useless junk and dust. Decorations might look great, but if they make a space harder to clean, they ultimately take away from the aesthetic appeal of a space!

For every piece of stuff you have in a space, you add an opportunity for mess and increase the burden on yourself to clean. DVD’s look great on a shelf when organized, but it’s generally only a matter of time until they become disorganized. The same is true of any small object in a space. Having lots of throw pillows looks great when a space is clean, but makes your living room easier to mess up and harder to clean afterwards.

Purging a space of items that do not contribute evident value is a great way to keep them clean longer, and make cleaning them easier. Adding items that make cleaning easier is a great second step as well! If spray bottles, wipes, brooms, etc; are in every room, having them available at a moments notice makes cleaning easier! Wiping the TV down isn’t a big decision when the wipes are right behind it, and the same is true of any room or object in your home!

3) Its Not Just About The Mess, Its About You Too.

There’s a common saying that “a clean house is a clean mind”. Most interpret this as, ‘when my house is clean, I will feel peaceful’. But a different interpretation is possible, and also very useful.

When it comes to cultivating calm and peace of mind at home, its common to turn to things outside us for a solution to the stresses inside our mind, but turning our attention inside can be helpful as well.

When you see a mess around the house, listen to what’s happening inside of your mind. It might seem like dirty dishes cause you stress, but upon careful examination you might find that the stress you feel actually is the cause of the mess. Human beings naturally do what they can to avoid discomfort, and the stress and anxiety caused by the thought of cleaning is anything but comfortable. When a voice in your head tells you that the dishes can wait, name that voice ‘Mess’, and be ready to disobey it.

At first, cleaning your house every time you come across a mess is likely to be not-so-fun, but after a time you’ll notice that less and less work is available for cleaning. The more you practice avoiding the voice of ‘Mess’ in your mind, the better you will get at cleaning your home, and the less frequently you will hear it.

4) Cleaning is a Habit, Not an Action

When you establish the right habits, cleaning suddenly requires little (if any) energy because it comes naturally. You don’t have to think about cleaning because your habits take care of the problem before it even occurs.

Think about the cleaning tasks that cause you stress, and identify any habits you have that might cause them. Maybe your bedroom is a mess, and instead of cleaning it, you simply keep the door closed to avoid the discomfort of seeing clutter and mess.

Next time you go to close the door, consider simply walking inside and making the bed, or organizing a few things on the vanity. Sometimes just by getting started, we become aware of how little we actually have to do to get things clean, and that feeling can give you the energy you need to finish the job! Even if it doesn’t, by tidying even a little, you can close the door on the room without guilt. Moving forward, every time you go to close that door, all it takes is doing one little thing, and over time you’ll find the room cleans itself!

Think this way whenever you become aware of any of your habits that contribute to a clean home. By attaching a positive action to a negative habit, slowly but surely your negative habits transform into positive ones. It only takes little bit of work, performed consistently over a long time, to make your house consistently clean! Form the right habits, and the house cleans itself!

5) Its a Marathon, Not a Sprint

Solving the problem of a clean home isn’t about rolling up your sleeves and dedicating your entire Saturday to cleaning it top-to-bottom. It’s about having the presence of mind to sweep the floors while you cook dinner, organizing your spaces to be easy to clean and hard to mess up, and cleaning in spite of the fact that a loud voice in your mind says not to.

Cultivating this presence of mind is not easy, but neither is living in an environment that causes you stress. Like losing or gaining weight, those that succeed recognize that it isn’t just single actions in your life that have to change, but your lifestyle.

Changing your lifestyle takes time, but that means you don’t have to expect yourself to do it overnight. Holding yourself to the expectation that you’re going to wake up tomorrow and suddenly have all the clean habits you need is a recipe for disappointment and stress, so cut yourself some slack and recognize that having an impeccably clean house is a marathon, not a sprint!
