Tips to Enhance Fluency

Fluency in spoken English is essential if you want to make a great impression on the listener. I am not talking about good impression but great impression. Seriously a fluent speaker always makes his or her mark. As a matter of fact I have met more fluent girls or ladies then boys or men. I do wonder that why is it that the girls are so good in spoken English as compared to men? I believe the main reason behind that is the pitch of the feminine sound is very sharp, so they sound very clear while speaking as compared to men who have a more of masculine voice.

Though the basic difference in the pitch of voices of man and woman, both have the capability to attain fluency. It's just a matter of hard work and desire for perfection. If you have the insect of perfection inside you, then no one stop you from becoming a very fluent speaker.

Fluency in spoken English comes at a price of very hard work and consistent practice, but once achieved makes a very strong mark on the listener. Some of the tips that are helpful in enhancing fluency are discussed below:-

Don't think that you will fail
One of the most basic fear in the mind of the speaker while speaking is that he or she will not be able to say or pronounce the words clearly. This leads to stumbling, and use of same words again and again. Avoid this. Make sure that you have a firm belief in yourself that you are a perfect speaker, and then speak. You will realize the free flow of ideas in your mind. This helps in removal of fear from inside and boosts the confidence while speaking.

The ideas must flow freely in your mind
Remember that while speaking your native language, you need not think about what need to be said. This is because the ideas and thoughts comes freely into your mind. Speaking English is no exception. Once the ideas start flowing freely in English in your mind, then you can communicate them with effortless ease. This ease is required to communicate your thought freely to the listener. The free flow of ideas in English comes slowly with consistent practice. That's the main reason that I stress on thinking in English. This helps in changing your thought process from your native language to English.

Work consistently
Attaining fluency is matter of very hard work and consistent work. You cannot just attain a good level in fluency and then stop, but you need to consistently make efforts for perfection. The feeling of perfection comes from the look in the listeners eyes. You can tell easily by looking at the listeners face or eyes that he is impressed with your fluency or not. Don't be demotivated if the listener ignores you or gives an uninterested look, but take it as a feedback and work even more harder.

Identify your weak points
The best man who knows about all your defects is you yourself. Admit to your shortcomings and areas of improvement. Then only you would be able to work on the areas that require improvement. Identify the loopholes in your speech, the words that you try to speak on almost every occasion, your stumbling in words while speaking or even thinking. Make note of your shortcomings and work accordingly to overcome them.

There are many more ways to improve spoken english fluency, most of them I have covered in my earlier posts and would be discussing about the rest in my later posts. the key point is to never loose hope. Remember that you have got only one life, and it is not for regret or humiliation, but achievement and glory. Don't waste it, worrying about your shortcomings but work harder to overcome them.

I am done for the day, Improve spoken English will soon be back with yet another informative article, till then keep working hard.
