What Is It???

What Is It???

I came across this gorgeous Photo during the wee hours of the morning while I was surfing through Wikipedia.org (a totally rockin' site, btw).

So what on earth is it???

...It's the Central Electrode of a plasma lamp! You know, like those things you see in Spencer's gifts and other novelty places that have electrical current inside, and when you touch the globe, the electrical current is drawn to where you hand is.

They're also known as:

  • plasma globes
  • plasma balls
  • plasma domes
  • plasma spheres.

From Wikipedia: "The central electrode of a Plasma lamp, showing a glowing blue plasma streaming upwards. The colors are a result of the radiative recombination of electrons and ions and the relaxation of electrons in excited states back to lower energy states. These processes emit light in a spectrum characteristic of the gas being excited."

Anyway, thought this was neat enough to put on here. Just looking at it gets me totally inspired! I was oroginally planning on writing something new, but I may just go out and shoot some photos instead! I have about 11 black and white exposures left in the camera and want to use them up by Monday.

So as soon as the sun comes up I'll eat some breakfast, drink some coffee, and go gallivanting around to look for some cool photo opps. :)
