Diane seems to have the perfect life. She is a wife, mother, and the owner of Happy People Read and Drink Coffee, a cosy literary café in Paris. But when she suddenly loses her husband and daughter in a car accident, the world as she knows it disappears.
One year later, Diane moves to a small town on the Irish coast, determined to heal by rebuilding her life alone--until she meets Edward, a handsome and moody photographer, and falls into a surprising and tumultuous romance.
But will it last when Diane leaves Ireland for good? At once heart breaking and uplifting, Diane's story is deeply felt, reminding us that love remembered is love enduring.

Where on Earth do I start? I was delighted to receive a surprise copy of Happy People Read & Drink Coffee from the lovely team at Atlantic Books at the beginning of February and it's taken me this long to read it. Why? Because I didn't want it to end.
The bittersweet story of Happy People Read & Drink Coffee begins with a tragically awful and upsetting scene where Diane loses her family. It took me a good two weeks to get past just the first couple of chapters because whenever I picked up the book I got upset. I literally had tears rolling down my face. This wasn't a good look at work so I ended up reading a considerable chunk of the opening section a page at a time.
If you enjoy Happy People Read & Drink Coffee you'll also love How To Find Your First Husband
Despite the sorrow and heart tugging scenes unfolding, it was hard to stay away from Happy People Read & Drink Coffee. The story moves on to Diane trying to seclude herself in order to start piecing some sort of life back together after the tragedy. Winding up in a small village in Ireland, Diane soon settles in to a quiet and charming cottage with an increasingly infuriating but devilishly handsome neighbour. Edward is a sore subject for me as unfortunately the ending I wanted didn't happen ... will there be a sequel to the story that sees Edward once again? I hope so!
In addition to the tragedy that kicks off the story, there are some mountains to pass throughout the rollercoaster plot, not all of them bad. Some are incredibly sexy, whereas others leave you fuming and then laughing. The rolling scenes merge easily into one and before you know it you've just read another 70 pages.
Happy People Read & Drink Coffee has easily become one of my favourite reads due to the easy reading nature of the book and of course the exciting, sad and enlightening plot that lies within. There isn't anyone I wouldn't recommend this book to and I sincerely hope that Agnes Martin-Lugland is considering another instalment to this wonderful story. A full five stars from me says this is a book you need to read.
