Living in Cyprus: The Return of Mickey

You may have followed my War on Mickey Mouse last year where I battled with not one but two of the errant rodents who had invaded our House. Well, one of his offspring (or maybe not) has made an appearance… not in the house though. This was a truly classic ahh moment that included our Harvey, the eldest of our two English Springer Spaniels.

In the early hours, usually around five in the morning, I get up, let Harvey and Holly out to run around the back of our house and take a look at what wants watering, i.e., Grape vines, orange trees, peach tree, lemon tree, cherry tomatoes and lettuce, not to mention the flowers. I was testing the dry soil of our peach tree when Harvey began sniffing at the edge of the pool. Thinking he had found a lizard, I told him to leave whatever it was. But Harvey Looked at me, then looked down. “Leave it,” I said. To which Harvey did the same, looked up at me and then pointedly looked down. He was pointing to something with his nose. I looked into the water and on a purple woggle

there sat a tiny, baby, mouse, clinging to it for dear life and at the same time trying hard to balance itself so it didn’t get tipped into the water.

That was the ahh moment and being the big softy I am, I picked the woggle up and allowed the tiny creature to jump off and run away. Harvey, Holly and myself stood there, not moving, and watched the bedraggled creature slowly make its way down the side of the house.

It was an unusual moment as normally either or both dogs would have chased the mouse, but I guess they, like me, sensed the poor creatures plight.
