And I’m coming with you now with the second part of my reviews for the one shot mangas that I read during my holy week break. I’m excited to share with you this last three because this next three books that I will review includes the best among the six that I read. In case you missed it, here’s the link for the first part.

Souten no Koumori (A Bat in Blue Sky)
by Hiromu Arakawa
Number of Pages: 63 pages

Synopsis: It is the Story of a shinobi, Henpukumaru, who awakens in an enemy’s mansion. She is introduced to the future master of the mansion, Chiyozuru. Chiyozuru is able to get the unemotional Henpukumaru to smile and react differently than she normally would. But, one night, there is an attack by Henpukumaru’s former allies.

This was the first manage that I read and I was really impressed by the way it was illustrated and drawn and the way the story was told. The illustrations were really developed and the story was just short but really action packed and emotionally driving. The action scenes are the best part for me in this manga. The scenes move seamlessly between the panels and there are really those parts that made me totally gripped my chair.

I later learned that the mangaka of this one shot manga is the creator of Fullmetal Alchemist. I know that it’s one of the most successful and popular mangas of all time and reading this one, now I understand why. Good pacing and good story development matched with well-drawn art. Though short, this manage was able to make the characters grow and be relatable. I was able to connect to the characters and feel their emotions. The little love story thingy of this book at the end made this manga roughness lighten up a bit.

The manga’s story talks about choosing the way we live or lives. It’s about moving forward and accepting changes that come along the way.

The Specific Heat Capacity of Love
by Old Xian, Moss
Number of Pages: 35 pages

Synopsis: A girl goes to the seaside on her class field trip and accidentally meets a mysterious handsome boy, after talking, she hears a dramatic story about a bird and fish, finally the kind girl decides to help the bird fulfill its last wish.

This is the best from the six mangas I read.

I held my breath when I finished this story. It really did blew me away. The art is so clean. The story is so unique. The characters are so bizarre.

I started this manga without no idea or anything what I was reading. It was confusing at first as I am not sure where it was heading. But yeah, when I totally understood what was happening, there’s no turning back. I can no longer unread what I just read. The story is so melancholic that is full of yearning for re connection and solitary loneliness.

How the manga was illustrated perfectly fit the flow of the story. The art is so magical and detailed. I felt like, I was able to feel the strong ocean wind in my face. It’s so realistic. I was able to feel the pain of the characters. I was with the characters in their journey for answers. The creators crafted a story that is more than just a love story. It became an exploration of the complexities of falling in love and the sacrifices that we can do for the one we love. I appreciate how environmental awareness was infused to the story. It maybe odd, but it worked for me.

Devastating and totally heart-wrenching, this manga has a powerful message to its readers. More than just accepting fate, it talks about the actions that we people do to our environment specifically to other living creatures here in our planet. The book’s story revolves around two characters who became separated because of people’s inhumane actions. This book’s purpose is for people to re-evaluate their actions and to practice selflessness. This book encourages its readers to practice empathy towards other living creatures.

I like the flow of the story, it moves perfectly well with its pacing. The story is really tragic but towards the ending, there’s that redemptive feeling. Breathless.

Massugu Kimi E

This is a pretty straightforward and cute love story about two high school friends who eventually realized that the person that they are looking for are just beside them all along.

Enter Natsuki and Toda, two characters who were unsure about their feelings for each other. The mangas follow the story as the two tries to navigate high school while at the same time trying to answer their confusion about their actual feelings for each other. There’s denial of feelings to awkward jealousy to understanding confusion and to eventual confession.

This manga’s art is nothing spectacular but totally enough to connect with its atmospheric feel. Before I even started this manage, I already foresaw know how will it end. The story is nothing original but I still enjoyed it nonetheless. It’s short but it did not fail to make me smile at some point. It has a lot of cute scenes that definitely brought back memories of my teenage years.
