Hey, guys! I am super excited to talk about one of my absolute favorite books that I have read this year and my favorite poetry Collection that I have ever read, which is The Witch Doesn’t Burn In This One by Amanda Lovelace. This poetry collection is chock full of feminism, women empowerment, sass, badassery and so many other things while also shedding light on serious topics like spousal abuse and transphobia and its my everything. I love this so much, and I really need to stop gushing so I can just talk about all of my feelings, so let’s get into it!
Synopsis:

My Thoughts:
This is probably my favorite poetry collection that I have read to date, which is seriously saying something because I love Atticus Poetry. Like that dude knows how to write. But this is the feminist poem collection we have been waiting for. It covers just about every topic you can think of from transphobia to eating disorders in addition to all of the feminist topics in here. I am a huge fan of Amanda Lovelace’s work, and while I did enjoy her first collection, this one blew that one out of the water.
I loved the theme of the witches. It was woven into every poem in here, and I absolutely loved it. She basically is taking back what all of those misogynistic assholes call us and using it to empower women, and it was freaking epic. I loved every single poem in here, and I was continuously blown away by how utterly relatable it was. This is very much centered on how women are treated in society and how despicable it is that women are looked down upon. Every remotely feminist thought I have had over the years was in this poetry collection.
It was astounding and honestly pretty amazing to read all of the things I have thought about. Amanda Lovelace means business in this one. She is basically saying that no matter what these men try to say we are or why they are superior to women, every woman is an individual being of immense magic, and I loved the way it was portrayed and woven into each of the individual poems. They tell a story, and those are my absolutely favorite kinds of poetry collections. I love when they weave together to tell a story!
There is one point where she talks about something I have thought about for years, and its this idea of girls in books and movies and tv shows who say they are not like other girls or guys telling them that, and basically women take that back in one of the poems. Yeah, we aren’t like other girls not because there is something inherently wrong or boring about other girls, but because each individual woman is different and their own special kind of magic so no girl is like another, and that is one of the best things about being a woman. We can find power in our individuality and that power–magic, if you will–brings us together and that was portrayed so well in this collection.
I just overall am floored by how much I enjoyed this collection of poetry by Amanda Lovelace, and I cannot wait to read more of her work in the future. This is a collection that I think everyone should read, and I highly recommend it because it is just so fantastic!
