Extra notes: Today is the six hundredth consecutive day that I've meditated for at least twenty minutes.

I've been keeping track using Google Calendar (a marvelous tool). I can scarcely believe I've gotten this far.

Meditation has done much to transform my life. I can't begin to list all the ways it has done so; but I can say it has had a significant effect in reducing bouts of depression, to improved (as in improved) sleep, sharper clarity as I write, better memory, lower blood pressure, a much steadier mood, and enhanced appreciation and gratitude. The colors of life are more poignant. Moments are more easily noticeable. It's easier to make connections. It's easier to read. Everything has a much sublimer suchness to it, to borrow an observation another made (I can't remember offhand who; it'll probably come to me during my meditation later!).

It has become such an important element of my daily life that I can no longer imagine life without it.

And it's rarely just twenty minutes anymore. I don't maintain logs, so I can't be sure, but I would guess that I typically meditate forty or more minutes a day, typically in two or three separate periods. Morning just after waking is usually the best time for me, and then once again in the afternoon after work.

It isn't a cure-all, as some would have you believe. It doesn't take away your problems or tragedies, or your stupidity, or cruelty. My experience of it is that it brings a better focus to my problems and tragedies, which has helped me in dealing with them; and as for my stupidity and cruelty, simple hard work and prayer seem to be the answers there.

You should give meditation a try if you haven't. I think it will surprise you.
