7. Gilligan: 700 new words
Notes: Finished as well! Finally!

8. The Cheapery St. Heroes: Book Two: Secondary edit number one of the prologue

Extra notes: I really enjoy writing the fan fiction that I do. It stretches my imagination, and disciplines it too. It's difficult keeping the voice of a character firmly planted in your brain that you didn't come up with. It seems like it would be easy, but it's anything but. That said, keeping the voices of the characters in Firefly and Gilligan's Island in my brain is much easier than it is for other shows, probably because both shows were so well-written. The writers of both honored the characters and worked to keep their voices, which, years later, makes it easier for me to do as well.

Speaking of superlative writing, not to mention a great show: If you're not watching The Expanse, you're missing out. The show was canceled by SyFy; but after a huge outcry from fans, including Nobel laureate Paul Krugman, Amazon picked it up for a fourth season. Kye and I are on season three now. It's very difficult to watch just a couple of episodes at a time.

The Expanse, by the way, is one of those shows that honored the story by taking the time to set up the plot and properly introduce the characters. For that reason it got a slow start in terms of ratings, and never really took off like the bean counters at SyFy wanted it to. Saturday I mentioned one of the current rules of the herd: If it ain't big, it ain't worth shit. The Expanse never got big, so for most people that meant it wasn't worth watching. Despite having a devoted fan base, SyFy still decided to pull the plug on it.

I'll be interested to see how it fares when the fourth season airs. The publicity its outraged fans stirred up was how Kye and I learned of its existence in the first place. I wonder how many new fans it has now as a result?
