Extra notes: Tomorrow I will work on Failure and Book Three, then format the edited visions of Slum I've been going through the past two weeks, and re-launch the book. If I've got time--and the inclination--I'll work on other projects.

I've been keeping up with the fiasco that is Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination. No matter how you slice it, it's plain that he's a first-class slimeball who deserves to be in prison, not one step away from one of the most powerful seats in the land.

His nomination also illustrates perfectly, once again, that only occasionally do the truly best people make it to such elevated places (cough, cough--Merrick Garland, anyone?), but are instead most often supplanted by human trash. Mediocracy, at best, rules, and defines what passes for excellence and what doesn't. And of course the great mooing herd of the vast majority of Americans just go along and get along.

When I taught I watched as truly monstrous individuals were raised up and honored time and again. They'd win Teacher of the Year awards and in their lofty positions deigned to lecture us Great Unwashed. I saw similar farces happen the long and interminable years I worked retail; and I saw it happen when I too was a student.

And now, book publishing. It isn't who ya know, it's who ya blow. Donald Trump can be counted as a successful author in this hateful culture, but I can't make more than $20 a year on my works? Donald Trump--who can barely read himself, and who has admitted that he doesn't read books!

Indeed.

There is a steep price for allowing the mediocracy to take hold and rule the roost. We're experiencing it now in the utter moral collapse of this nation. The consequences have been catastrophic, and will only get worse.
