Pierwalker Log: February 19, 2018

Writing start: 10:36 AM.
Finish: 2:14 PM.
Total new words: 1500
Edited (est.): 5500

Tasks

1. Book Two of Angel: Off until Saturday
Notes: Thinking of the trigger warnings to include in the front matter. I believe they should be included.

2. Failure: Off

3. Book Three Melody: 700 new words
Note: I've got the ending in sight. Trying to see how it fits in with the Failure's timeline.

4. Watson: Read-through

5. Book Two Cheapery St.: Read-through

6. Dread Pirate Roberts (2): 500 new words
Notes: Nearly at chapter end. I've finally got a handle on the general direction of the narrative here.

7. Slum: Off

8. T-Bag (new fan-fiction from Prison Break): 300 new words
Notes: I'm going to keep with mainstream canon on this. There are two interceding Prison Break narratives after the main series ended that I'm going to ignore, and will proceed from the season five half-season instead.

Extra note: The world may very well end because people can't stop screaming for attention and doing absolutely anything to get it, including, perhaps especially, our illegitimate "president." I refuse to join him, and them.

I've done my part to "market" myself. But I won't do more. I won't, for example, rejoin Facebook, or Twitter, or, for that matter, any other social media site. They're worthless. They are designed specifically to addict people and to bring out the very worst in them. That much is fact. Deny it at your own peril.

I woke today to see that nobody had visited my blog last night, and you know what I did? I thanked God. More: I actually felt grateful. That's been happening with increasing frequency these days.

This life seems to be a constant push to pander and sell oneself out at any cost. If you attempt to stand on your merits alone, you indeed will stand alone--and unnoticed. Authors who claim that the best marketing an author can do is to write a good book are lying, or are point-blank ignorant. Good books are rarely read. Books that make it into the wider public consciousness get there solely by huge sums of cash and the connections that cash make available. There is no other way.

And so today, as with every one of the previous five thousand four hundred-plus days, I labor in total obscurity. It's only been very recently that I've begun to find the quiet heavenly. God grant that continues, and deepens. Amen.
