Muskrat Falls is garnering more media attention, this time from overseas. The respected UK-based weekly, The Economist, published an article Tuesday titled “A dodgy dam in Canada’s east”.
It outlines the problems facing the hydro development and references the province’s history of “backing ill-conceived projects”, highlighting the Upper Churchill contract in particular.
The article says while intended to reduce the province’s dependence on fossil fuels, it’s “shaping up to be the latest in a long series of failed schemes to improve the economy.”
Nalcor CEO Stan Marshall, who replaced former CEO Ed Martin following his sudden departure last year, famously called Muskrat Falls a “boondoggle”. VOCM Local News Now 16.8.17
