I liked the Book but initially, I was surprised a the sudden change in life for Emmeline. That could be intense for the very young reader. The book is very easy to read so it may garner a younger audience. It has lots of adventure and excitement with Emmeline showing courage and ingenuity. Thinking more about the story, it is a good adventure and Thing is an interesting sidekick. There is steam punkish hardware and fantasy overtones. This hopefully will be a series as I can certainly see giving it to my grand kids.
