Most Common New Years Resolution Mistakes, And How To Avoid Making Them

It’s that time of year… again…

Let’s face it, the holiday season comes with a few annoying traditions, like listening to everybody’s new year’s Resolution. It’s about that time when people start talking about “new year, new me” and all that crap. So if you are like me, a person who has never really been able to keep up with her resolutions, this is the year we keep them all. Based on my expert experience as a solid resolution breaker, I have come up with a few tips to help out.

Don’t tell anyone about it

Nobody actually cares what your new year’s resolution is. Unless you are doing it with someone, don’t tell people about it. Also, not telling people will help it become reality.

Don’t care about what others do

When your friend comes over and tells you about their new view on life and how this year will be the best, just nod and smile. Under no circumstance should you be thinking “why can’t I be that motivated?” It’s not about what other people do, this is about you.

Find a partner

Doing it with someone can be easier because you can motivate each other. Also if you fail it’s nice to have someone to talk to about it.

Make it realistic

So many people think that the resolutions are about changing your whole life and becoming someone else. You have to make them realistic so it’s actually possible to stick to them.

Have a big idea, and small ways to get there

The key to achieving any goal is to dream big but also see the road ahead of you. Make some small goals first that will lead up to the main goal. This will make you feel great when you accomplish the little things, and you will have a whole journey behind you when you reach the big one.

  • Write down the resolutions and the plan to get there

If you write it down and save it as a note on your phone or a document on your computer, you don’t have to spend time stressing about it. Writing it down helps you to remember it, but not stress about it.

  • Forgive yourself if you fail

If at first you don’t succeed you try again. This is a cliché saying for a reason. Don’t give up, just keep going until you get there, you will but you have to realize it might take longer than you want.

  • Be consistent

Even if you don’t reach your goal as fast as you may have planned, keep working at it. If you are trying to change something in your everyday life, be persistent with it and you will get there.

  • Be patient

By now you should realize what I’m telling you to do, be patient with it. There is no race here, and unless competition is the only thing that drives you, take a deep breath and try to practice some patience.

  • Make a change for you, not for anyone else

Make goals because you want to be the best version of you. If you are changing because someone else told you to, or because you think someone will like you more, don’t do it. No one deserves to have that power over you.

There you go guys, go out and make those resolutions! I know that the first, and most important resolution I will be making this New Years, is to keep spreading love and to never give up on myself.
