How To Choose Best Headphones Perfectly Suited For You

Ah music! – Music is life.
There is no best way to enjoy music unless its projection is from a headphone specifically adapted for you. One thing I have noticed when people are about to buy, to them, to choose best headphones to purchase always involves-the price, the design, the weight, brandname and comfort the headphones. Of course, I am not saying this criteria are not good. Nobody would want to pay a 100 dollars for a device they won’t enjoy in the long run.

To save you the stress of trial and error method before you find your “mate” in any headphones, let’s discuss about how to choose best Headphones Perfectly Suited for you.

Take A Look At The Drivers

What is a driver?
A headphone driver is the unit that produces sound and is made up of diaphragms, magnets, voice coils and other components. A headphone can have multiple drivers, with each ranged at generating different frequencies.

To guage the capability of a headphone to produce good sounds, check out the size of its drivers. The quality of the driver unit, makes a huge difference in the quality of sound produced. The best headphones are those with dynamic drivers- they produce a much better and powerful bass and can achieve the right amount of sound pressure without much noise.
You can think of a driver as a mini loudspeaker.

The Frequency

The frequency response of a headphone is the range of bass, mid and treble. In a frequency of 20 – 20000 Hz(Hhz is the unit of frequency), the first number represents the bass end of the spectrum while the second number represents the treble end.

The human ear can listen to sounds between 20 – 20000 Hz which is the frequency of most headphones. You should also note that a higher frequency does not mean better sound quality. Although the frequency response is important. A good frequency response means that the headphone would have the ability to measure all frequencies equally, that is, from the highest possible tones to the lowest.

Definitely some manufactures would specify up a range of frequency numbers indicating which tones can be heard, the best way to be sure before buying is to listen to them. Try to see how many of the tones are reproduced exactly the same way since headphones find it difficult to reproduce every single tone perfectly.

Headphone impedance also important

You noticed that your headphones sounds differently when plugged into various devices? The cause of this is the headphone impedance. The impedance of headphones is measured in ohms. The impedance of headphones can be high or low, so you can select what you want depending on the device you intend plug it into. Headphones with high impedance (about 100 ohms and above) are not designed to be used by portable devices such as smart phones.
Headphones with lower impedance ( within 16 – 32 ohms) are preferable when you are using a portable device. Most headphones with low impedance (less than 25 ohms, approximately) will require verg little power to deliver high audio levels. Low impedance headphones you work perfectly with portable devices, music players and phones. Use of an amplifier could likely blow it out. To choose best headphones for you, the impedance shouldn’t be neglected.

Headphone Sensitivity

Both sensitivity and impedance work hand in hand. Sensitivity will indicate how loud a headphone from a different level of source.

Sensitivity deals how headphones are able to convert electric signals into clear and distinct sounds. For a headphone to produce sounds without any distortion, the sensitivity and impedance must regulate. Decibels of Sound Pressure Level per milliwatt, or dB SPL/mW is used to measure the sensitivity of headphones. The human ear begins to feel sense of pain instead of that of hearing when the note gets to 120db.

When you get a headphone with very low sensitivity, you would require higher power. So if you use them with portable devices like tablets and phones, the sound quality would be highly diminished causing you to increase the volume of your device thereby draining the battery quickly.

Its Noise Canceling Features

To enjoy the beauty of music, even in a noisy and distractive environment, you would need headphones with noise canceling features. Using active noise control, it reduces the volume of surrounding sounds thereby allowing you to enjoy the song itself with minimal distractions.

We don’t need to go into to the exact details of how it works, but headphones have a tiny microphone whose job is to listed for unwanted noise, analyze it and then reflect sound waves back to your ears. This steps helps filter out the noise, and sends just music to your ears.

The headphones are quite expensive, but you can’t put a price on comfort. They also require you charge them up and they give an awesome music listening experience.

Note that noise isolation is different from notice cancelation, because it employs passive noise control. The passive noise control or noise isolation headphones are those that are tightly pressed against the ears, or totally covers the ears and therefore cuts out outside noise in the process.

When you are about to choose best headphones to use, all the above features should be put into consideration.
Each of three specifications when put into good consideration, would help make a good decision concerning which headphones to purchase. So don’t be in a rush to choose. Take your time and select a headphone with good driver, superb frequency, right sensitivity/impedance and great noise canceling features.

When buying, try going for the best/ highest quality because they have the highest chance of producing the best sound quality due to better engineering and more durable parts.
