Isaac Gets A Wife (Continued)

The servant takes ten Camels and all types of gifts from his master and sets out for the city of Nahor. It is in Aram Naharaim.

In the evening, he makes his camels kneel near a well outside the town. It is the time when women come out to draw water.

He prays to the God of his master Abraham to make his journey successful. He wants God to show His Faithful Love toward him.

He wants a sign from God. He is now standing near the spring. When the women of the town come out to fetch water, he will ask one of the girls to lower her Pitcher and give him a drink. If the girl agrees and promises to give water for his camels too, that should be the one God has declared for Isaac. This will serve as a sign of God’s faithful love.

Even before Abraham’s servant could finish his prayer, Rebekah comes out. She is the daughter of Bethuel, the son of Nahor, Abraham’s brother. She has a pitcher on her shoulder.

The girl is beautiful and is a virgin. She goes down to the spring, fills her pitcher and comes back.
