I have been working on books for years now, writing Series both long and short. Tales from the Twisted Eden Sector took me several years to complete, and The Looking Glass Saga is still ongoing after several more. It should be done sometime next year, but after it’s done there’s going to be some changes to how these things are happening.
Simply put, I can’t keep writing these books as they go for much longer. I have a whole plot that I’ve been working off of, picking through and rewriting over and over as each book gets written.1 And it is exhausting. Like, really exhausting. Each book comes out as it gets done, but the rest of the story is constantly getting reworked. And I do know that there’s another way of doing it.
I know because it’s how I did City Without Heroes. With the second and third book of White Noise. With the last four books of The Looking Glass Saga, actually. For each of those, I sat down and wrote the entire2 the series all in one go so I knew what was going to happen and knew how to change some of the details in previous books around. The result is, I feel, a much more cohesive series.
It also means I’m not reading book 1 years later and realizing how much my writing style has changed over the course of the last several years.
Theoretically, I can get the whole series out in a more timely manner, and you’ll know exactly when the end is coming. It does mean I may be taking some breaks between series and that I’ll probably only be working on one story at a time, but it may also mean you’ll get to see a few more… special bonus things popping up. Especially for those on the mailing list.
Expect that happening some time in the next couple years, though. I need to finish off this one first.
