Top DIY Beauty Treatments

Whether you’re looking to spend less money, make more things for yourself, or be a little more eco-conscious, Diy Beauty Treatments are a fantastic way to indulge yourself. Sure, it can be a little messy, and you might find yourself Googling how to remove wax from clothes, but it’s always worth it in the name of a relaxing home spa day. Here are a few recipes to get you started on your way to homemade heaven.

Luscious Lip Balm

With shea butter to infuse moisture into dry lips and beeswax to lock it in, this Lip Balm is a perfectly portable beauty treat. Put your stamp on it with your Favourite Essential Oils.

You will need:

  • 2 tablespoons shea butter
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon beeswax
  • 5 drops of your favourite essential oils (feel free to mix and match)
  • Small saucepan
  • Small jug
  • Portable pots – you can buy empty cosmetic pots, repurpose old lip balm containers, or use mini jars

Put the shea butter, beeswax, nut oil and essential oils in your small saucepan and heat on a very low flame, stirring gently until it’s all melted and the mixture has turned clear. Transfer the mixture to the small jug, then pour it out into your portable pots. Take care when doing this, but don’t worry too much if you have an accident – there’s plenty of information on how to remove wax from clothes out there!

Leave your lip balm to set; once it’s opaque and solid, then it’s ready to use. You can keep some in with your beauty supplies to form a moisturising base for your lipstick, and keep another container in your handbag to take around with you.

Super-Quick Avocado Mask

This mask can be used on your face or hair, and it’s the easiest thing in the world.

All you need is:

  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Just mix it all together, apply to dry skin or wet hair, leave it to act for 30 minutes, then wash it off. It’s as simple as that!

Paraffin Wax Hand and Foot Spa

Beloved in salons everywhere, this soothing moisture treatment can easily and affordably replicated in the comfort of your own home.

You will need:

  • 1 block (approx. 4oz) paraffin wax, available online or in the canning section of your grocery store
  • An ounce of coconut, almond or olive oil – whichever you prefer – plus a few extra drops to coat your hands
  • 20 drops of your favourite essential oil
  • A casserole dish – use the same oil as above to grease it
  • Plastic sandwich bags

This is enough for your hands OR your feet. If you want to do both at once, simply double the quantities. Make sure you change into a robe before you start this treatment, or you’ll be looking up how to remove wax from clothes!

Melt the paraffin wax, the oil, and the essential oil in a double boiler. The double boiler is an important safety precaution – this mixture gets very hot. Once it’s melted, very carefully pour the mixture into the casserole dish and allow it to cool down. Once a skin has formed on top, it should be ready to use. Test a small amount on the back of your hand to make sure.

Wash your hands (or feet) and gently massage those extra drops of oil into them. Dip each hand and/or foot in the wax repeatedly until a few layers have built up, then cover them with the sandwich bags or plastic wrap. If your hands are covered in wax, you might need a little help with this part.

The treatment needs around half an hour to get to work, so have an episode of your favourite TV show or podcast queued up and ready to go. Once the time is up, just peel the wax off – it should come away easily – and give your hands or feet a quick massage. You’re done!

There you have it – from a spa-style paraffin treatment to a super-speedy avocado pick-me-up, these are just a few amazing beauty treatments you can make for yourself at home. Enjoy!
