Banned Bollywood Movies which would have been fun to watch if released

Black Friday

Black Friday, was a Film made by Anurag Kashyap on the 1993 Bombay bomb blasts. That indeed was a very unfortunate day in modern Indian history and it would be right to call it a black day.

It strives to trace the motives of the incident and recreates the ensuing chaos and confusion. The film was critically acclaimed at International film festivals, however back in India the Movie was banned to prevent a biased public opinion against the perpetrators of the crime, who were still under trial. The movie was released two years later. Watch it for the realistic depiction of a tumultuous time in India’s recent history packed with energetic action sequences that will leave you at the edge of your seat.

Urf Professor

Urf Professor is a black comedy directed by Pankaj Advani (known for Sankat City) and stars Sharman Joshi, Antra Mali and Manoj Pahwa. This movie entails the shenanigans after a hit man, hired to kill a newlywed bride by her husband, finds his car and a winning lottery ticket are missing. The hired hit man is ironically called professor and indulges in the habit of buying lottery tickets and borrowing books from library on the subject of ‘sex’.

What irked the censor board this time was the ‘vulgar scenes’ and ‘explicit language’. Don’t miss out on this entertaining movie with fast paced dialogue and unapologetic dark humor that will leave you in splits.

Paanch

Another Anurag Kashyap movie that displeased the censor board was Paanch, starring Kay Kay Menon and Aditya Srivastava. The film takes inspiration from a real incident, Joshi-Abhiyankar serial murders that horrified Pune in 1976-77. The CBFC could not agree with the film’s depiction of drug use, gory and violent murder scenes and explicit language and hence the movie was not released. The plot follows four broke friends who play together in a band. They conspire with a rich friend of theirs and pretend to kidnap him, to get some money out of his miser father.

Firaaq

Firaaq was set in the aftermath of the 2002 Gujarat Riots and depicted how people tried to put the pieces of their lives back together and tried to move on. This movie was the directorial debut of acclaimed actress, Nandita Das and stars Naseeruddin Shah, Deepti Naval, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Paresh Rawal.

Literal meaning of Firaaq is separation and the movie aims to show the pain of helpless muslim class of Gujarat and the pain of separation from their loved ones, whom, they lost to the riots that were ignited just to fulfill some cruel political motives.

Parzania

Parzania is directed by Rahul Dholakia, an NRI film director who witnessed with his own eyes the tragedy of a Parsi family, who lost their only son in the same Gujarat riots and has not been found till date. So moved was he by this heart- wrenching incidence that he made a movie on the same.
