How To Become Your Own #GIRLBOSS

Success: something we as humans appear to have become obsessed with; whether it be our blogs (hello!), our education, or our jobs, we're all driven by the idea of success- and that's where the term #GIRLBOSS comes into play. What does #GIRLBOSS mean to you? To me, it's a woman on the road to success- one who seems to it all together, a clear vision and a clear plan! So, "How do I become one?" is the question- one I am to answer in today's post! This isn't to say I'm a perfect human being whatsoever, just a few tips I've discovered along my journey that may help with yours- or so, I hope it does!

"This is your world. Shape it or someone else will"

This, in my opinion, is the greatest tip to success- after all, in Amy Winehouse's words: "I can't help you, if you won't help yourself". Chances are, the people you deem to be Successful have the drive to be successful- after all, if you have the drive, then you'll likely work harder and fight for, if you will, the end goal! Being a GCSE student at the moment, I'm staying motivated by creating a Pinterest study board and via a bit of healthy competition; so... what are you going to do to motivate yourself?

"No better time than now"

Following on from the previous point, I've found it incredibly helpful to set goals to keep myself on track for the end goal; say, I am aiming to achieve all 8's and A*'s in my GCSE mocks in January. Your goals should never be broad, so for me to achieve an 8 in say, French, I know I need to improve my listening and reading skills- so am learning extra vocabulary to work towards this. Make sure your goals are specific, achievable and have an action plan on hand to achieve them!

"Old ways won't open new doors"

To go with my example above, you have to identify your weaknesses and allow yourself to work on them- it's something we are constantly told to do in school, but how many of us apply this to our lives beyond then? For me, I know I have moments I can be very shy and find it difficult to get my point of view across in a group situation, as well as struggling with public speaking- but I'm aware these skills are ones a true #GIRLBOSS needs, so aim to push myself when I can. As people, we should never stop developing- so what are you going to do?

"Do what you have to do until you can do what you want to do"- Oprah Winfrey

We can't always have everything we want in life, that's a given, so practicing self discipline is a must! When it comes to self-discipline, I've found my phone to be my worst enemy in disguise- so try to go the first hour of my morning without using it, as well as leaving it in the other side of my room before going to bed. As tempting as it can be to have a scroll through Facebook as see who's up to what that night, it's important to have control over yourself and not become a burdened to your phone! This can also apply to eating, or just about anything really- but give it a go, whether it be the phone or something else, as trust me... you'll feel amazing afterwards!

"You did not wake up today to be mediocre"

Time management is key- and planning is about to  become your best friend! Until I began recording my every moment of the day, I never realised how much time I could have optimised- AKA, stop swatching my lipsticks for the 100th time and get that pesky essay finished! Nowadays, I plan everything for at least the day ahead- to the extent of being assured I will want honey and blueberry porridge for breakfast next morning- and it has massively helped me to save time and use it for tasks more useful than staring at the wall. So, try writing to-do lists for the day ahead and recording your day to see the slip-ups!

"Focus on yourself. Don't get lost in other people"

The matter of the fact is, there just aren't enough hours in a day to get everything we want done- especially to workaholics like me. Therefore, prioritising tasks is a must- especially to a #GIRLBOSS! There are plenty of ways to do this- though my favourite has to be writing to-do lists the night before and highlighting the top 3 tasks of the day. I also love the concept of the Eisenhower box:

"The expert in anything was once a beginner"

Some of the world's most successful people- Bill Gates, Steve Jobs to name a few- have reported reading an extortionate amount throughout the week, whether it be 3 hours a day or a book a week! Successful people never stop learning as they know learning equals growth- so why not pick up a new book, experience a new culture or learn a new skill?
