Review: IOPE Perfect Cover Cushion

Did you know that IOPE was the first brand in Amorepacific to have a BB cushion? Granted, it’s been in the shadows of its sister brands such as Laneige, Sulwhasoo, Hera, Innisfree, Etude House, but IOPE has always had a special place in my heart because it was one of the first cushions I tried. During my recent trip to Korea, I chanced upon this new version, and hey, it says “Perfect Cover”, which I totes can’t resist.

IOPE Perfect Cover Cushion

After just 1-2 hours of wear time, you can see that the dark eye circles are beginning to emerge, and the minor blemish on my chin is visible.

I say…

The Packaging: A functional, but rather basic compact in very deep navy blue, matte finish – it actually looks somewhat like one of those wireless flat disc chargers for phones. It comes with the usual tray-airlock. The puff has glossy, somewhat patent finish on the side that you do not use to apply to your Skin, which I appreciate – so that it doesn’t get stained that easily. Otherwise, it’s the same-old puff that is soft and works well. The product has a cloth mesh lining which covers (I assume) some liquid/cream foundation. I’m not a huge fan of this sort of packaging, cos when you store the item standing vertically, there’s a tendency to leak (kinda like Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Gel Touch Foundation).

The Scent: A mild powdery-floral fragrance.

The Application/Finish: Upon initial application, the coverage is high and I’m pretty impressed. The skin was instantly brightened, with a mostly matte finish (80% matte, 20% glow). Dark eye circles and blemishes were easily covered, and skin redness was evened out too. That said, this doesn’t have long staying power nor oil control, which is such a pity. After just 2 hours or so after application, my skin started showing some serious shine, and a good 50% of it had faded – even an accidental swipe on the skin by your fingers (say when I’m tucking my hair behind my ears and accidentally brush against my cheeks) will remove the product.

The Verdict: Great coverage, brightened skin finish, but weak staying power (on oily, oily-combi skintypes). Applying a base ( Cle De Peau UV Protective Cream Tinted) and setting with some powder (I use Make Up For Ever Ultra Hd Microfinishing Pressed Powder) can extend its lifespan by an hour or so, but still doesn’t hold up to Hera’s Black Cushion. I daresay this would work a lot better on dry, dry-combi skintypes , or when I head to a place with a drier climate, cos I think the sebum produced by my skin dissolves the product.  Such a pity though – I guess I’ll be putting this up for sale soon (I’m holding my first-ever flea on Instagram very soon, so follow me for updates!)

Pricing & Availability: KRW40,000 (1 casing, 2 refills). Not available in Singapore at the moment. I bought mine from Aritaum in Korea (I believe Aritaum has an online store in the US)
