Going Green my ideas from a blog I read.

Everyone should wholeheartedly endorse the broad goals of going green and work together for it. We often think what we as individuals can help in the paramount mission to preserve natural resources, reduce pollution and ultimately ensure our planet’s sustainability. By making small changes in our homes and lifestyles, we can contribute in a big way to in achieving this goal. I would like to point out 6 ways to Go-Green that I read on a blog entry by Bella of the trash removal service in Toronto - http://www.redbins.ca/6-ways-go-green-home/.

1. Switch out our light bulbs: CFL bulbs over incandescent light bulbs, save on energy and lasts nearly 10 times longer. By replacing one regular light bulb with a compact fluorescent, we are also saving 150 pounds of CO2 being released into atmosphere per year.
2. Composting Food Scraps and Garden Debris: The 30% of municipal garbage are from our food scraps. Rather than throwing it out in the bin for garbage disposal, we can use it with our backyard compostable bin and regulate the supply of organic fertilizer for the garden we maintain.
3. Use Vinegar for synthetic chemicals: Vinegar costs less and is an effective killer of molds, viruses and bacteria. Its usage instead of synthetic chemicals present in cleaners is a great environmental choice.
4. Plant a Tree: One single tree absorbs more than one tonne of CO2 in its lifetime. Planting one in the backyard and donating time and money to our communities tree-planting program is a great choice.
5. Clamp down on Heating/cooling energy consumption: To save energy and electricity bills, consider turning down the temperature of the water heaters by 5o C and also use a cold water setting while laundering. If using a water heater younger than 12 years old, the water heater insulating jacket can be used with it for more efficiency. And if off to buy a new one look for Energy Star certified water heaters of gas or electric power.
Installing a low-flow showerhead HVAC would save 350 pounds of CO2 into the atmosphere every year. Reducing the thermostat in winter by 2o C and raising it by 2o C in summer saves up to 2000 pounds of CO2 being released annually. Turning off your electronic devices when not in use also saves lots of energy and CO2 emissions.
6. Recycling: One of the easiest and greenest things to do is recycle. It reduces dumping, greenhouse gas emissions and improves air, water and soil quality.

We needn’t change all of our non-green habits overnight, take it slowly one step at a time. But Going Green basically results in huge energy consumption and opting for natural products and managing waste. I once again thank the trash removal service team in Toronto for providing this guide in their site. I started with the Planting a tree and Composting Food Scraps methods in my house. We already were using CFLs.
