The Coworking Diaries #6 – Techspace Aldgate East

We pay a visit to some of the best coworking spaces in the capital to see what they’re all about!

Thus far, this week has bought us torrential rain and voting uncertainty. Techspace offered me a quiet oasis away from the storms – actual and metaphorical – in the form of their Leman Street coworking location.

“The comfiest chairs in the business!”

The first two things I noticed when sitting down to work were a) how calm the atmosphere seemed, even though the floor was almost at full capacity, and b) just how comfortable the chairs are! A serious plus though is that when you join Techspace, you get access to a membership network of tech experts and creatives, making it easy to skills share and collaborate.

Members can also book meeting room space free of charge online. The workspace provider’s Aldgate East location has 4 meeting spaces in total, all varying in size, as well as what I like to call a ‘slumber room’ lined with beanbags!

“Up-and-coming”

Aldgate is recognised by those in the tech startup world as an emerging tech hub, with the likes of Uber and General Assembly setting up shop around the corner. The location benefits from being a part of the city fringe, and is therefore cheaper than more central locations. It’s also the centre of action when it comes to innovation and creativity.

“One of the coolest places to lunch in East London”

A bold statement, I know. But there’s something about Trevis and Hyde at the Leman Lock Hotel (just across the road from Techspace) that exudes genuine cool whilst managing to avoid the superficial hipster aesthetic. Think Miami vibes and creative menus – take a look at what’s on offer here.

With five venues open so far, Techspace in Shoreditch is due to open its doors this summer and will have a dedicated events space – watch this space for further info. For more information on membership options, including fixed desk, private office and enterprise, or to book a viewing, contact our team on 0800 524 4315.

A big thank you to Techspace’s Guste and Amanda who met me at the venue, showed me the ropes and recommended Treves & Hyde for lunch!

A space for big ideas

Break up the day with a game of table tennis!

Potato salad on point at Treves & Hyde

Next up: I spend the day at The Boutique Workplace Company’s Tagwright House coworking hub.
