Earning money as a Freelance Writer is not as difficult as one may think.  Living life on your terms and making money from it is possible.  I did some research to find out how to earn money as a freelance writer works and more importantly, how quickly it can happen.In this article, I’ll share with you strategies I personally used to work as a freelance writer that have worked for me and that can also help you become a freelance writer as well.

When I first began my blog, I was looking for ways to earn money from writing until my blog earned me enough income to sustain myself.  By doing so, I looked for a lot of freelance writing opportunities as I love to write.  By joining a lot of the freelance sites out there like Upwork and Freelancer, I realized that unless you were already established on those sites, it was difficult for a beginner to get work.

Even if you were extremely talented at your craft, it was difficult to get employers to notice you.  Most employers want to hire freelancers with established profiles, hours worked and ratings.  Being new, this was getting quite frustrating.

Then I stumbled upon Writers.Work and I couldn’t believe I found something that worked. I was able to find a platform that allowed me to write and craft my articles for my clients and find work, among other cool things.

Here are my exact steps I took to getting paid clients through Writers.Work and my income I earned while freelancing as a writer:

1. Update your resume

If you’re seriously looking to start a career as a freelance writer, you’ll want to update your resume to reflect your writing skills and abilities.  Even though freelancing may not be considered a “real job” to some, the person who posts the job looking for a freelancer is a real person.  They read resumes and writing samples and are looking for exceptional work.

Make sure your resume and writing samples stand out from the crowd so that you can have a better chance of getting chosen for available work.

2. Apply to opportunities that you’re able to complete

Writers.Work isn’t like any other freelancing platform out there.  Instead of just one platform where you have to compete against other freelancers for work, Writers.Work allows you to choose from many different platforms, giving the beginner a chance to find paid work as a writer.

Within my first two days on the platform, I had already found a paying gig, paying off my investment on Writers.Work and turning a profit at the same time.

3. Don’t Give Up

Please note that my results are not typical.  Just because I found a paying opportunity within 2 days of joining the platform does not mean that you will do the same.  It may take you one day; it may take you one week.  No matter the situation, stick it out.  This platform should be comparable to applying for a job; you have to be the best candidate for the role.  The more opportunities you apply for, the better your chances in landing something great.

Remember, your energy and thoughts become your reality.  If you’re thinking to yourself, “I’m going to land the best opportunity for me and make this work”, you’re right.  You will.  Hang tight and don’t give up hope.  Taking action is half the battle.

My Income Stats As A Freelance Writer

I used the platform on for 2 months before I started to focus my attention solely on my blog.  By doing so, I was able to earn $1,750 in my first 30 days on the platform.  During my second month, I earned $3,400 on the platform.

I did this by only applying for opportunities that paid well.  Some opportunities may pay $10 per article and some may pay $250.  Some opportunities may ask you for your fee and you set your price to work for many different clients.  The opportunities are endless.  It all depends on the client.  I only applied for opportunities that paid what I thought was fair and also worth my time.

Writing articles takes time; at least for me.  I put my heart and soul into writing and I care about the quality of my work.  I make sure I overdeliver all of the time. I worked with a total of 2 clients my first month and my second month I worked with 3 clients.

During the 3rd month, my blog was able to generate enough money for me to work on my blog full-time and not rely on other sources of income to sustain myself.

I highly recommend Writers.Work for beginners or anyone who is looking to make steady, online income by writing.  It is possible and it doesn’t have to be difficult.  As a matter of fact, this is probably one of the most straightforward ways of earning money as a freelance writer out there. My Honest Opinion On Freelance Writing As An Income

In my opinion, earning income as a freelance writer is possible.  It’s also possible to make a great income as a freelance writer alone.  You have the advantages of:

• Setting your own schedule
• Working with different clients
• Charging your own fees 
• Working from anywhere in the world
• Earning extra income
• Earning full-time income
• Being your own boss
• Many more

You just have to ask yourself, “is this really something I want to do?”  “Does my passion lie in this?”  Be honest with yourself.  Working from home is fun and I love it but it’s also work 🙂  You really have to put in the time in order to reap the benefits.  In my humble opinion, I loved freelance writing and it was something that allowed me to grow a side income but also prepare me for working on my blog full-time.

If you’re looking to diversify your income, consider freelance writing.  You can write about virtually any topic from scientific studies, legal writing, blogging topics and many other areas.  Just be sure you are an expert in your field of writing and you have the proper formatting and understand the guidelines of your client.

All in all, freelance writing is great and I highly recommend it for someone who is looking to earn an income from home writing.  Make sure you do your research on your specific area of expertise and understand the job profile or criteria that a client is asking of you.  You always want to put your best foot forth when you’re putting your name on your work.
