On Sunday the 17th of June we were kindly Invited by Mackay’s Jams to attend Paddington 2. This was at St Andrews Square for the open air cinema organised by Edinburgh Events.
Launched in 2011, the St Andrew Square screenings were created to bring film lovers into the city centre, to celebrate the capital’s rich culture and creativity and generate excitement during the run-up to the world-famous Edinburgh International film Festival. This is a free event hosted over one weekend in June.
I have enjoyed many a free film at these events over the years but never had I been invited as a VIP before!
The 4 of us were invited and as it was on Father’s Day I thought this would be a great way to celebrate it, but sadly daddy had work....boo! So I invited a friend, who came along with her husband and her little one. (The baba’s didn’t need a ticket!)
With our VIP pass we were to be seated in an area at the front of the screen, deck chairs were ready for us and we were provided with a hamper, a choice of two to chose from, scones and jam or cheese and biscuits. I picked the scones and jam; there were enough scones for us all, clotted cream and two different types of MacKay’s Jams.....YUMMY!!
When we arrived we were greeted and treated just like VIP’s, the children all got a complimentary marmalade sandwich (Paddington’s favourite!) and our chosen hampers brought right to our seats.
We had a massive space in front of us which was perfect for the kids to run around when they got restless, Cassi had a great time crawling on the grass and cruising around the barriers.
Cora was happy in her chair and I had came prepared with a blanket (Scottish weather anyone?) which was such a good idea as though it was dry, it was very windy.
Both of my children were amazed by the massive screen, so was I if I’m honest. It’s on the back of a huge lorry, a very impressive machine.
As the movie started, the volume went up so all of St Andrews Square could hear. Cassi got a wee fright to start with but settled as soon as he saw the bear himself on screen.
I didn’t get to see much as Mr Cassi man was more interested in trying to crawl under the barriers and wave to the crowds behind us but what I saw was so funny. I could hear the laughs bellowing from the masses.
Now I have mentioned before how CC is a sensitive soul and when Paddington (SPOILER!) was sent to jail she found it all too emotional and we had to leave...wee toot.
I was sad to go but I knew if we stayed longer CC would become overwhelmed, Cass over tired and I would have been so over having kids (jokes)
A stop at McDonald’s saved the day on the way home and an extra long nap from the wee man meant sadness recovery cuddles on the couch with mummy. (She is a diva guys!)
It was a fab event, one we would be so happy to go too again but hopefully with daddy next time so then at least I could get to see some of the movie, hahaha!
Thanks for the invite guys, we had a ball!
