Home-coming

An exciting day it was, eventful to say the least. Not too long ago, our home had been a nest for two, with the addition of Nina, it had grown to three. That afternoon, the 14th of January, it would grow to four.

Before the additional heads, our home had been a comfortable enough place. We were contented with our party of two. Would things be different with four people living under one roof? Would we feel cluttered and suffocated? These questions weren’t new to us, we asked ourselves these things before we even engaged Nina. It’s only natural to have these thoughts. As we stepped into the Taxi, we knew that those questions would soon be answered.

It was a relatively smooth journey from the hospital. Your mummy had you wrapped tightly in her arms and you were blissful in your slumber. Calm and relaxed after we gave you a final feed at the hospital, just before we left. We worried that if we didn’t give you something to eat first, you would kick up a fuss in the taxi. The ploy had worked.

As the taxi pulled into the car park and halted just beside our lobby, we knew we were just a lift ride away from success. Yes, Success at keeping her quiet through the ride home… It’s funny how first time parents worry about such trivial things as keeping their baby calm tbough a ride in a taxi or on the bus or mrt. The way I perceive it now is different. Babys cry. It’s a fact. Sometimes at the most inopportune time. Again, fact. Society in general overlooks this small annoyances. I certainly have and would if I encounter a cranky child.

Moments later we were standing at the front door. Anxiety greeted us before I even unlocked the gate. Nina and Keanu hadn’t met you yet. How would Keanu react when he first met you? Sure, he had encountered and was used to babies and toddlers. Sure, I had brought back articles of yours, with your scent to familiarise him with. All the same, I was still not sure…

The door was opened and our home welcomed it’s newest member. Keanu, to my relief, also welcomed you openly. Showing much interest and nothing of which I was concerned over. I firmly believe that he recognized you from way before, when you were still in your mummy’s tummy. Everything was fine… Better than I expected.

As for the questions asked earlier in my post? Let me answer them for you. Yes, things were different… Very much so. And No, we didn’t feel cluttered or suffocated at all. On the contrary, our home was all the better with the new additions.
