Agatha Raisin and a Spoonful of Poison

Yep , you read that right…not a spoonful of sugar as Mary Poppins would have you believe, but a spoonful of poison! But of course, this isn’t no Disney tale…this is yet another case for Agatha Raisin!

Once passionately involved in rural activities such as charity work, baking competitions and of course the Carsely Ladies Society, now Agatha has regrettably little time for them.

So when she’s asked to help at the annual jam making competition in the quiet nearby village of St Twadey, Agatha jumps at the chance! Unfortunately, tragedy is just around the corner as the jam isn’t all it’s supposed to be, in fact, it’s been spiked…with LSD.

Cue chaos and mayhem! Judges reacting like wasps in jam and one or two residents meet their ends.

But who could have done such a thing? The youths of the village – those with criminal records? But Agatha would never suspect the obvious and so she turns her attentions to the upstanding residents of the local community.

With St Twadey in a sticky situation, Agatha Raisin may just be exactly what was needed because with Agatha on the case, no stone is left unturned and no case left unsolved!

Not only must Agatha deal with this, but she must also deal with falling further into the despairs of ageing and single life as Toni, her young colleague/ detective, whom we met in Kissing Christmas Goodbye, seems to be stepping out into the limelight.

Agatha is like many of us in the sense that she is relatable. When a colleague, or a friend or anyone is taking something away from you – be that credit for something you did or completely unintentional, you feel upset and begin to question yourself and what you know and do. We learn to trust our intuitions, our guts, from dear Aggie. (Don’t tell her I called her that, she won’t even let Roy call her it!) to trust ourselves is something we could all learn to do!

Yet another entertaining yet heart-warming tale by M.C. Beaton, Agatha Raisin is someone we can all learn from.

Happy reading!

Until next time,
