“Know, therefore, that from the greater silence I shall return…forget not that I shall come back to you…a little while, a moment of rest upon the wind, and another woman shall bear me.” – Kahil Gibran

So, firstly – I must apologise for the delay in blog posts! Travelling to the tree of life is a long old journey…oh wait, let me start at the beginning of this final novel in the Immortals Series, shall we?

“Whenever I look at me, all i see are things I’d like to change.

Whenever Damen looks at me, all he sees is a glorious gift from the universe.

Somewhere in the middle lies the truth.”

We continue where Night Star left us…with their worst enemies, Drina, Roman and Haven all dead and banished to the Shadowland, it just leaves Ever and Damen with one final task – find the antidote. Because with the antidote, they’ll not only free Damen from the poison lingering in his blood, but also and more importantly, they will be able to physically touch each other, finally embark on a night of passion they’ve both been longing for.

“What a tangle Love is.”

But Lotus, a mystical being in the darkest depths of Summerland has other plans…for Ever at least. Firstly, who the heck is Adelina and why does she keep calling Ever by that name? Not even Damen knows…

But soon they both will learn. Learn about about a life neither of them knew they had…their first life, a secret past life which will reveal the secret origins of their relationship and not just that either but they’ll also come face-to-face with the reason why fate keeps tearing them apart.

“We spend our lives getting caught up in all the wrong things–led astray by our minds, our egos, seeing ourselves as separate from each other, rather than listening to the truth that lies within our own hearts, the truth that we are all connected, we are all in it together.”

Is this the end of the journey? Don’t be daft. This is Ever and Damen’s life and if it’s not their past lives or other immortals getting in the way and keeping them apart, then there’s something else…there’ll always be something else. Ever and Damen’s future hangs in the balance (again)…

“You and I are meant to be. It’s the only thing I’m absolutely sure of. And while I have no idea what to expect, I promise I’ll do whatever it takes to find my way back.”

Lotus has one last mission for Ever, the tree of life and all its fruits have to offer. When Damen doesn’t follow her, she knows this could be make or break for them. But still she perseveres. This is her mission. This is her purpose. This is the reason why she kept reincarnating.

“The truth is revealed when you are ready to receive it when you need it in order to move forward to take the next step in your journey. to move on toward your destiny.”

Fast forward six months and much has changed back on the Earth plane. But now she has a chance…a chance to make everything right. Visiting a new look Jude and unintentionally Honor, visiting Sabine and Munoz and having a well overdue heart-to-heart and finally, seeing Damen. She must now try to catch up on school, pass all assignments and exams she’s missed if she has any hope of graduating…luckily good fortune is on her side. With the help of Miles, Stacia, Honor and the rest of the school, Ever graduates.

“Life is not meant to be an open-book test.”

But her story doesn’t end there. For now it’s party time…a gathering of immortals have arrived…time for them all to make a choice. Remain immortal, drink the elixir and have their youth and beauty preserved for 150 years OR eat from the fruits of the tree of life and have true immortality of the soul.

“Forgiveness is healing—everything is energy—thoughts create—we are all connected—what you resist persists—true love never dies—the soul’s immortality is the only true immortality—”

For Lotus, her decision was easy. Now she must convince Damen to make it too.

“Miracles do occur, and it’s never too late to turn your life around and reach for something better.”

After a tough conversation, antidote in one hand, tree of life fruit in the other, which does Damen choose?

“Damen, seriously, you must know I don’t love you because you’re immortal, I love you because you’re you.”

Well of course he chooses Ever and so they both eat the fruit…

Ultimately there’s a “and they all lived happily ever after” because technically they did! A perfect end and I actually preferred this book to many others, 5

I don’t think it would do a 6 book series justice if I didn’t review the series as a whole as well.

In Evermore, we can relate to Ever’s grief of losing her family to losing family and friends and loved ones of our own. We follow Ever out of the darkness, become happier but also learn that her story is only just beginning; a much bigger journey is ahead of her and there’s so much left unsaid.

We then move on to Blue Moon, where Ever has to make a heart-wrenching decision no one would be envious of …a choice between past and present. A choice that actually, none of us readers knew which path she’d choose until the moment she chose it. We learn that Ever is willing to make sacrifices if that’s what the journey requires.

In Shadowland, the stakes are higher than ever and provides an unexpected plot twist to the series and a precursor for what’s to come. Suddenly, seemingly small events, events that otherwise would seem simple – Jude arriving and ultimately the downside of immortality have a much larger bearing on not only Ever but the series as a whole.

Dark Flametakes an altogether different and much darker direction. A struggle with her innere dark side that seems to eventually work in her favour; being able to find the light in the person she considered her enemy, Roman. This is a powerful moment for Ever as she learns more about herself.

With Night Star, comes change, and a lot of it! Relationships change, serious decisions are made and everything is put into motion for the finale. Ultimately this book is far more than that, it’s about friendships and the fragile nature of them – something most of us will be well aware of. How they can change and shift into something totally unrecognisable to what it once was and how when a friendship ends, it can be just as devastating as any romantic break up.

And finally, Everlasting…well what can I say that I haven’t said above? It’s a wonderful finale, tying up all loose strings (even those we didn’t think of). We learn sometimes a journey of discovery helps us uncover how strong we really are. How love does conquer all, be that with friends, family, lovers. We have the perfect ending for everyone in this book – from Roman, Drina and Haven, to Jude, to Sabine and of course, Ever and Damen.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my reviews of the series and if you have anything to add then feel free to add it into the comments section below. I’d love to hear from you.
